THE PRIMATE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

Kibale Forest National Park is one of the best safari destination in Africa for chimpanzee trekking in Uganda. This forest national park has one of the richest ecosystems in the whole of Africa. It contains over 340 bird species, 14 species of snakes, 27 species of frogs and toads, at least 20 species of other reptiles and at least 200 species of butterflies. Other animals to be seen here include: chimpanzee, elephant, bush pig, giant forest hog, bats and rodents, etc.

Kibale National Park is a primatologist’s dream. It hosts a population of more than 1,000 chimpanzees, of which one 80-strong community has been habituated to tourist visits, as well as half-a-dozen readily observed monkey species, including the acrobatic red colobus and black-and-white colobus, and the handsome L’Hoest’s monkey.

Below are the activities we do here

Activities

Chimpanzee habituation experience

The chimpanzee habituation experience (CHEX) allows our clients to accompany Kibale’s researchers and habituators as they follow chimpanzee during their dally activities, thereby getting them used to human presence without altering their natural behaviour. This is an all-day activity and early visitors may be able to see the spectacular scene of chimps day-nesting, feeding, copulating, hunting, breast feeding, resting, patrolling and displaying until they build new nests and retire for the night around 7:00pm. This is a fascinating activity that gives our clients a chance to stay a few metres away from our closest relatives (chimps). Your travel to Uganda with the graben tours and safaris can enable you to see all these primates. During the activity, you may have chance to also see other primates like L’Hoest’s monkeys, red colobus monkeys, the black & white colobus, red tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, olive baboons, grey cheeked mangabey, bush baby and potto are among the other primates.
Other mammals are also present, though they are hardly seen. These consist of buffalo, leopard, bush pigs, elephant, and duiker. A neat viewer could also see amphibians and reptiles and a colorful variety of butterflies. (Come travel with us to experience the difference “Vienna tours and travel”).
(Note: advance booking is essential).

Chimpanzee trekking

As the graben tours and safaris, we do chimpanzee trekking activity that lead our clients to experience and participate in the chimpanzee trekking walks which starts from the Kanyanchu visitors center at 08:00am and 02:00pm and last 2-3 hours. Park guides are informed and readily available to take our guests through this ritual. (Please note that advance booking is essential).

Bird watching

Our birding activity in Kibale national park is an incredible activity, the park boasts over 372 bird species of which 60 percent are recorded Uganda’s forest birds. Bird watchers can spot various species of these birds as they enjoy their birding activities. 6 of these bird species are endemic to the Albertine Rift destination, that is to say dusky crimsonwing, black-capped Apalis, blue-headed sunbird, collared Apalis, red-faced woodland warbler and purple-breasted sunbird. Other Kibale specials are the green breasted pitta, African pitta, black bee-eater, Abyssinian groundthrush, yellow spotted nicator, little greenbul, black-eared ground thrush, brownchested alethe, yellow rumped tinker bird, blue-breasted kingfisher, along with the crowned eagle. (Travel with us and discover the hidden agenda about birds of Uganda)
