AMEDLEY OF WONDERS
Queen Elizabeth National Park occupies an estimated area of 1,978 square kilometers (764 sq mi), which makes it the second largest national park in the whole of Uganda. It is the only national park in Uganda where you can see the tree climping lions while sleeping lazily in the fig trees. The males have sport black manes, a feature unique to the lions in this area (they are found in Ishasha sector southern part of the park. The Park is named after Queen Elizabeth II following her visit to Uganda in 1954. (234 mi), the area of the park extends from Lake George in the northeast to Lake Edward in the southwest, and includes the Kazinga Channel that connects the two lakes. The park is named after Queen Elizabeth II it is home to 95 species of mammal and over 500 species of birds. The park is also famous for its volcanic features, comprising volcanic cones and deep craters, many with crater lakes such as Lake Katwe, from which salt is extracted.
This is a very fascinating activity mainly done early in the morning and dusk are the best times for viewing animals as they spend the day time escaping from the heat under shady trees or in park’s Lakes and channel. For many times, our clients have been able to enjoy this experience through established game drive tracks such as in Kasenyi, the north Kazinga plains and the Ishasha sector offering virtually guaranteed sightings of lions buffaloes, antelopes and elephants, along with warthogs and baboons.
The Kazinga channel is an oasis for the many fascinating species that inhabit the park. Taking this boat tour from Mweya peninsula to the mouth of Lake Edward gives our visitors the chance to stand just a few meters from the hundreds of enormous hippos and buffaloes that spend their day time cooling off in the waters, while elephant families drink and bath on the shores. For birders, this is your best activity you will be able to see variety of different bird species along the channel.
This is an incredible treat as this is the Uganda’s most popular and Scenic Park containing variety of habitats that range from savannah to wetland forests, linking to the expensive forests of DR Congo allows our visitors to spot east as well as central African bird species. This diversity is reflected in the list of over 600 bird species, the biggest of many protected areas in East Africa. A majority of the birds found in this area are regarded unique in East Africa and are a must see by birdwatchers in Africa and around the world. The Kyambura gorge experience is more than discovering chimpanzee in their natural environment; it teaches our visitors about the ecosystems of Kyambura gorge “the underground” rain forest, including vegetation types and fruiting seasons, forest bird identification and behavior and chimpanzee and other primate ecology. This activity takes about three (3) hours while taking pictures and enjoying life with the apes.
